Mary Madsen Hall 1955 - 2003

"Muf"

Daughter of Richard & Isabel ("Betty") Madsen

Sister to Betsy, Susan, Carolyn, & Chris

Wife of Tom Hall

Mother of Brian & Steven, her beloved children

Friend to many

Muf treasured being a mother to Brian and Steven most of all, and they brought her the deepest joy of her life. Married to Tom since August 1979, they lived most of their married life in Fairlee at the north end of Lake Morey. Muf grew up in New Jersey in Bruce Springsteen country, and enjoyed going to his concerts in Asbury Park, NJ as a teenager. The Madsens had a summer cottage on Lake Morey and Muf became attached to the Fairlee area, making a number of life-long friends, who will sorely miss her and her wonderful sense of humor. Muf also loved to read, and for the past few years enjoyed hitting the yard sales. She loved Motown music and rhythm and blues. Muffy had a deep appreciation, along with Tom, for games of chance such as poker and horseracing. Sunday night poker games were a common winter entertainment for many years. Going to the track in Saratoga was a pilgrimage most every August for at least a few days, sitting at the top of the stretch where you could see the horses being urged to make their move.

Muf on the trail

"What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the winter time. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset."
