Finland Ice Marathon 2000
This year's marathon is best described with one word: COLD! The temperature hovered around -5°F (-23°C). 100 skaters crossed the starting line, but only half of them finished, and several of those who did finish were suffering from mild to severe frostbite. The intense cold also created a lot of cracks in the ice which caused the competitiors to fall repeatedly.
