''Homepage'' virus

May 2001There is a new virus making the rounds, which has a reference to Homepage. This travels along as a file attachment; if you open it, it spreads to your computer and then out again to the people in your address book. As always, you should not open any file attachments you receive in your email unless you know exactly what they are, even if it appears to come from someone you know.

The e-mail arrives with the subject line "Homepage" and the attachment "HOMEPAGE.HTML.VBS." The message of the e-mail reads: "Hi! You've got to see this page! It's really cool ;O)". It opens your web browser at random to a number of pornographic Web sites using Internet Explorer, and sends itself to email addresses in your Address Book. To your correspondents, it appears that the email is something that you sent them.

For more on this virus, you can visit this page on the McAfee site.
