Welcome to ValleyNet : ValleyNet KnowledgeBase : Security : ''Sobig.F'' Virus

''Sobig.F'' Virus

There is yet another new virus/worm affecting all Windows machines that is spreading throughout the Internet, known as the W32.Sobig.F. This virus arrives by email; if your ValleyNet Message Center system is properly configured, it will stop it but our subscribers might receive a large number of quarantined virus notices from support@valley.net, with notificaqtions that an email with the firus has been stopped.

One of the nastier aspects of this particular virus is that it will "spoof" addresses that it's being sent from, by using an email address it finds on a website or in an infected computer Outlook/Outlook Express addressbook or inbox. it may even appear that the spam and the virus is coming from your own computer.

There's a Lycos news story that explains it very well.

See the Symantec website "Sobig" virus page for more details. While the ValleyNet Message Center may quarantine any infected emails coming into your ValleyNet email account, we still recommend that all our subscribers install antivirus software and keep it up to date.
