''Outlook Express Update'' virus
January 2002 There is a new email virus circulating, affecting Windows computers, that has the potential of causing severe problems. It arrives as an email with the subject Outlook Express Update containing an attachment with the filename mmsn_offline.htm. Opening this attachment will cause severe problems on your computer, including corruption and deletion of files. There is more information on this virus at this Symantec page.
What to do? Obtain and keep up to date a good anti-virus program to keep your machine from becoming infected. Do not open e-mail enclosures unless it is something you are expecting to receive and if it is from someone you know. Because BlitzMail does not automatically open enclosures, it may be a safer email program for you to use than Outlook or Outlook Express.
