What can I do about too much junk email?Junk and pornographic mail is a growing problem for all Internet subscribers. If you register for a newsletter or a download at a web site, that site may sell your email address to junk mail list providers. Then unwanted mail starts can start appearing in your email box. This unsolicited commercial email is also known as SPAM. You can use an email program (like Eudora or Outlook Express) to filter the incoming mail based upon the email address from which it is sent, but most junk mail senders choose a new email address each time. See your email program's documentation for more information. You can also obtain one of the free web-based email addresses; when you register at a web site, you can provide that email address instead of your real email address. You never really even need to check that web-based email account; or, check it only occasionally. Many junk and pornographic emailers send their mail from outside of the US. There are no international laws currently in place that can prevent this kind of mail from being sent or received. The final solution is to change your email address and make sure you never post it on any web site or any chat group.
For more information, be sure to see our informative web page about Avoiding Junk E-mail. Two other web pages dealing with the subject are http://www.thisistrue.com/spam.html and http://www.scambusters.org/stopspam.
