Our Internet connection ties up our telepone line
Question: We're spending more and more time online, and it's tying up our telephone so that people can't reach us. Any solutions?
Answer: If you have only one telephone line, when you are online with the computer someone trying to reach you gets a busy signal. There are a couple of solutions:
If you live where you can connect to DSL service, with one telephone line you can be online and talk on the phone at the same time. Seems like magic, but it works. Ask your ISP for more information. You can also use satellite, cable, or wireless to connect; they don't normally use the telephone line.
The telephone company offers a voicemail system that can take a message even when you are online; this way people, can leave a message when you are using the Internet.
If you have call waiting on your line, there is a product called "Catch-A-Call" that can put your Internet connection on hold while you answer the incoming call. Local electronics stores may sell them, or you can order them online.
