Community Discussion Lists

Welcome to ValleyNet : Community Discussion Lists

We have a separate page about why ValleyNet hosts community email discussion lists and how you can set one up for your community.

ValleyNet currently hosts a number of email discussion lists that are open to the public. We also host a number of discussion lists that have closed memberships, for specific interests or organizations.

To find out about how ValleyNet can set up a free email discussion list for your community, or for information about options for discussion lists for your organization, write to valleynet.administration@valley.net.

The following email discussion lists have open memberships; anyone can subscribe, although we limit who can post on some of our lists. Please review the list guidelines for the specific discussion list in which you are interested.

  Localvores

The Localvore discussion concerns locally-grown foods in Northern New England.

Localvores are local food advocates committed to eating foods grown within their local foodshed. This localvore and local agriculture discussion list is a place for sharing information that will help us find, use and promote foods grown within our northern New England region. It is a place to share sources of hard-to-find local foods, recipes, tips on kitchen gardening and putting foods by; links to outstanding web sites, articles and books; info on locally-grown food events. It is also a place to ask questions relevant to our local food supply. One of our missions is to create a network of people from neighboring villages to promote and nourish a viable local food system. We cultivate involvement through educational programs, encouraging the sharing of knowledge, skills and resources. In addition to supporting local agriculture and making use of existing assets, we work to build the needed infrastructure to abolish food insecurity. Our goal is to forge self reliance and foster community thereby improving our quality of life. Valley Food & Farm's information on locally grown foods, farmers markets, CSAs, etc. can be found at http://vitalcommunities.org/agriculture/onlineguide/index.cfm. They have an excellent calendar of events and a blog. Upper Valley Localvores blog at http://uvlocalvores.wordpress.com/ Catamount Earth Institute offers a discussion course called Menu for the Future which raises awareness to the many issues connected to our current food system http://www.catamountearthinstitute.org/discussion-courses/ Upper Valley Farm to school is at http://www.uvfts.org/ This public discussion list is supplied as a community service by ValleyNet - learn more about ValleyNet at the ValleyNet homepage at www.valley.net .
